domains are expensive

For years, I've paid the annual renewal for domains that I dreamed of turning into real products/services, or that I was using for a limited purpose.

I'm dirt poor & sell blood plasma to scrape by because I'm too mentally disabled to work.

I had a domain tluf.me that I used for short urls. Bought it for like $1.99 or $2.99. Well the renewal fee is $32.99, and they didn't tell me that when I bought it (maybe it was in the find print, idk). I couldn't afford it, so the renewal just lapsed.

A bunch of links I've posted online (on old Twitter) & in code documentation are now broken.

I have qualms with this, but it's better than pushing myself too hard and being miserable and failing to meet my needs because I'm putting too much energy into making money to hold onto a domain that barely gets any use.

I've had several other domains lapse over the past year or two. It hurts because it feels like I'm letting go of big dreams I had. But it's a relief because money, and honestly takes some pressure off too.

I'll just use subdomains from now on. I still own ReedyBear.com and Taeluf.com, which I hope never to get rid of (might get rid of taeluf if I ever abandon that brand name for my software).

P.S. It's bullshit that I pay $14 monthly for shared web hosting, when it only costs like $4 monthly if you have enough money to pay 3 years up front. I've been with DreamHost for 3 or more years now, probably, and I don't cost them $10 more every month just because I can't pay $144 up front. 3 years at $14 monthly is $504. I'm being punished for being poor.
