Insulin is patented.
If you, a well-trained chemist, open an insulin-production facility in your city, and start selling it to your diabetic neighbors, what will happen?
A cease-and-desist. A lawsuit. Police will come because you're violating patent law.
If you refuse to stop making it, you will physically be forced out of your lab, you will be jailed. If you resist that force (by using force yourself), the police will kill you.
Why? Because somebody "owns" the insulin patent.
If you try to make medicine so your neighbors can survive, the police will kill you, because of a piece of paper some corporation owns.
