launching junk into space for fun
Mark rober is launching a small satelite into space, utilizing a SpaceX service that launches 15-100 satelites at a time. This satelite will take pictures of uploaded selfies, with earth in the background.
Its a super neat project, but in his video he didn't even mention climate impact. There's so much stuff we do as a species that causes harm and quite frankly just doesn't need to happen.
As cool as this project is, i don't think it should exist. But he has the money (like half a million dollars) to do it, so he's allowed to, despite the impact it has on the rest of us. And he made a super cool video about it.
My issue isn't so much with Mark Rober's specific climate impact in this project, but the "do it because i can afford it" approach to modern life that's driving climare destruction. It also would have been nice if he had talked about climate impact in his video.
