ReedyBear's Blog

ethical scapegoat

My blog is not private or anonymous enough to write about some of the things I want to.

Some of my reflections involve loved ones who may not want their stories published on the internet. And with my blog attached to my identity, I could out someone else's story.

But if I go anonymous, is it any better? Does it remove the ethical dilemma? Sure, if I make a new blog as an anonymous duck, nobody will ever know who I am or who else I'm talking about. No individual would ever be outed if I wrote about my "bestie" or my "friend" or an aunt or uncle.

But does that make it okay to share my full story, the one that is entangled with my loved one's story?

I don't know. I can share it with my therapist, but that's a special case. Does complete anonymity also provide that ethical scapegoat?

Will it create any harm? Will I have to keep secrets? Why do I have to worry so much?
