Letter to the Editor: Denying trans existence
I wrote this Letter to the Editor, which was published in my local newspaper (online, at least):
In her latest newsletter, Mary Miller denies the existence of trans women, and refers to them as men.
Our priniciple issues are these: High grocery prices, unaffordable health care, high housing costs, and a lack of local community.
She plays on fears of men entering girls' locker rooms. If you're worried about what adults will do to your children in locker rooms - go in the locker room with them, or have them use the single-serve bathroom.
This is a culture-war issue playing on fears, seeking to divide us. We should stand up for eachothers' rights - the rights of cis girls and trans girls.
Trans people are not the reason your grocery prices are high (google "potato cartel"). Trans people aren't the cause of high health care costs (its corporate greed all the way down). Trans people haven't bought up swaths of housing and used algorithms to collude and raise prices. Trans people didn't restructure American cities so that you can't walk to anything.
Don't let the powerful people get us pointing our fingers at each other. Your neighbors are not your enemies. Your kid's trans classmates are not the reason your life is hard.
